When Should My Child First Come In?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first dental visit by age one — or within 6 months of the first tooth coming in. Starting early gives us a baseline, lets us monitor development from the beginning, and most importantly, gets your child comfortable with dental visits before any anxiety has time to build.

After the first visit, cleanings are recommended every 6 months for most children — the same as adults. Some children with higher cavity risk may benefit from more frequent visits, which we’ll discuss with you based on what we see.

Not at all. Cavities are influenced by diet, genetics, bacteria levels, saliva composition, and oral hygiene — most of which parents have only partial control over. Some children are simply more cavity-prone than others. Our job is to help you manage it, not to assign blame.

Children’s cleanings typically range from $75 to $150 depending on whether X-rays or fluoride are included. Most PPO dental plans cover children’s preventive care at 100%. For families without insurance, our Smile Savings Plan provides 20% off and includes preventive services.
