What Is Fluoride and How Does It Work?

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that bonds to tooth enamel, making it significantly more resistant to the acid attacks that cause cavities. Every time you eat or drink, bacteria in your mouth produce acids that slowly wear down enamel in a process called demineralization.
