Missing a Few Teeth? A Partial Denture May Be the Right Solution.
When you’re missing one or several teeth but still have healthy natural teeth remaining, a partial denture is a cost-effective, non-surgical option to restore function and appearance. At Tribute Family Dentistry, we fit patients for custom partial dentures that look natural, stay secure, and let you eat and speak with confidence.
We serve patients from The Tribute, Lone Star Ranch, Phillips Creek Ranch, Frisco Lakes, The Colony, and Little Elm. We’ll evaluate your remaining teeth, discuss all options including implants and bridges, and recommend what makes the most clinical and practical sense for your situation.
What Is a Partial Denture?
A partial denture is a removable dental appliance that replaces one or more missing teeth in an arch where some natural teeth still remain. The artificial teeth are set into a gum-colored base, which is held in place by clasps that attach to your existing teeth or, in the case of precision attachments, fit onto crowns on the adjacent teeth.
Unlike a dental implant (which is fixed and surgically placed) or a bridge (which is fixed and attached to adjacent teeth), a partial denture is removable — you take it out for cleaning and at night. This makes it a more affordable and less invasive option for many patients.
Why Replacing Missing Teeth Matters
Adjacent teeth drift into the gap over time, disrupting your bite
Bone loss begins at the site of missing teeth within months
Chewing efficiency decreases, affecting nutrition and digestion
Speech can be affected by gaps in the front teeth
Facial support is reduced, accelerating the appearance of aging around the mouth
Your Options
Types of Partial Dentures We Offer
Cast Metal Partial
A rigid metal framework supports the artificial teeth and clasps onto existing teeth for a secure, slim fit. The most durable and long-lasting partial option — the metal framework can last many years with proper care.
$900 – $2,000
Flexible Partial (Valplast)
Made from a lightweight, flexible nylon resin with no visible metal clasps. Blends naturally with gum tissue for excellent aesthetics. A popular choice for front teeth replacements and patients with metal sensitivities.
$800 – $1,800
Acrylic Partial (Flipper)
A temporary solution often used during healing after extractions or while waiting for a permanent restoration. Lightweight and inexpensive — not designed for long-term daily wear but effective as a transitional appliance.
$400 – $1,000
The right partial depends on where your missing teeth are, the condition and position of your remaining teeth, your budget, and your lifestyle. We walk you through all options at your consultation — including whether a dental implant or fixed bridge might serve you better long-term.
How the Partial Denture Process Works
Consultation & Exam
We evaluate your remaining teeth, gums, and bite. X-rays confirm the health of supporting teeth. We discuss which partial type best suits your situation and goals.
Prep Work
Any necessary treatment — extractions, fillings, or crowns on supporting teeth — is completed first to ensure the partial fits properly and lasts as long as possible.
Impressions Taken
Precise impressions of your mouth are taken and sent to the dental lab along with shade and bite measurements to fabricate your custom partial.
Try-In & Adjustments
A try-in appointment confirms fit, bite, and aesthetics before the final partial is delivered. Adjustments are made until the partial is comfortable and functions correctly.
Delivery & Follow-Up
Your final partial is delivered with detailed care instructions. We schedule a follow-up to address any adjustments needed as you adapt during the first few weeks.
Partial Dentures vs. Implants vs. Bridge
- Removable
- No surgery required
- Most affordable upfront
- Can replace multiple teeth across an arch
- Requires adjustment as bone changes
- 5 to 10+ years with proper care
- Fixed — does not come out
- Surgical placement required
- Highest upfront cost
- One implant per missing tooth
- Preserves jaw bone
- Can last a lifetime
- Fixed — cemented in place
- No surgery required
- Mid-range cost
- Requires crown prep on adjacent teeth
- Does not preserve bone at gap
- 10 to 15 years typically
If you’re a good candidate for implants, they are almost always the better long-term investment. But not every patient is — and for those who aren’t, a well-made partial or bridge provides excellent results. We give you an honest recommendation based on your specific clinical situation.
Common Questions
Partial Dentures FAQ
Cast metal partials can last 10 or more years with good care. Flexible partials typically last 5 to 8 years. Acrylic flippers are temporary and not designed for long-term daily wear. All partials may need relining or adjustment over time as bone and tissue changes occur.
Most patients adapt well within a few weeks. Start with soft foods and cut food into smaller pieces. Very hard, sticky, or chewy foods should be avoided long-term to protect both the partial and the supporting teeth. Your chewing efficiency will improve significantly compared to having a gap.
We recommend removing your partial at night. This gives the supporting gum tissue a chance to rest and recover, reduces the risk of damage to the partial, and allows you to clean both the partial and your remaining teeth thoroughly before bed.
Remove your partial daily and brush it gently with a soft denture brush and mild soap or denture cleaner — not regular toothpaste, which is abrasive. Soak it overnight in denture solution or water. Clean your remaining natural teeth and gums thoroughly before reinserting.
Most PPO dental plans cover partial dentures at 40 to 70% after deductible. Coverage and waiting periods vary by plan. We verify your benefits before your consultation so you know what to expect before committing to treatment.
Our Smile Savings Plan provides 20% off partial dentures and most other treatments. Financing is available through CareCredit and Cherry with flexible monthly payment options. We can also discuss phasing treatment to spread costs over time.
