Emergency Exams — Frisco TX
Don’t Wait. We Can See You Today.
Dental pain rarely develops at a convenient time — and waiting days or weeks to be seen almost always makes the problem worse and the treatment more expensive. At Tribute Family Dentistry, we reserve time in our schedule every day for same-day emergency exams. New patients are always welcome for urgent care, no prior appointment needed.
An emergency dental exam gives us the complete picture — X-rays, a thorough clinical evaluation, and a clear treatment plan — so we can start relieving your pain the same visit whenever possible. We serve patients from The Tribute, Lone Star Ranch, Phillips Creek Ranch, Frisco Lakes, The Colony, and Little Elm.
What Happens at an Emergency Dental Exam
You Call Us
Call (469) 598-1021 and describe what’s happening. We’ll fit you in as quickly as possible — often the same morning or afternoon.
Targeted X-Rays
Digital X-rays of the affected area give us an immediate view of the tooth root, surrounding bone, and any infection or fracture not visible to the naked eye.
Clinical Evaluation
Our dentist examines the tooth, gums, and surrounding tissue. We test sensitivity, assess the extent of any infection or fracture, and check your bite.
Clear Diagnosis
We explain exactly what is happening with your tooth, what caused it, and what your treatment options are — including cost — before starting anything.
Same-Day Treatment
Whenever possible we begin treatment the same visit — whether that’s an extraction, root canal, temporary restoration, abscess drainage, or antibiotics.
Common Urgent Conditions
What We Diagnose & Treat at Emergency Exams
We identify the source of the infection, drain the abscess if appropriate, prescribe antibiotics, and determine whether a root canal or extraction is the right next step.
Persistent or throbbing tooth pain almost always has a diagnosable cause — decay, a cracked tooth, or nerve involvement. We find it, explain it, and treat it.
X-rays and clinical exam reveal how deep a crack or fracture extends. Depending on the severity, treatment may be bonding, a crown, or extraction if the tooth cannot be saved.
We examine the exposed tooth, check for new decay or damage, and place a temporary or permanent restoration to protect it while a permanent solution is arranged if needed.
Swelling in the gums, jaw, or face indicates spreading infection. We evaluate severity, treat the source, and advise when ER care is warranted for rapidly spreading infections.
Unexpected pain or complications following a recent dental procedure — including possible dry socket after an extraction — are evaluated and managed promptly.
No Insurance?
Don’t Let Cost Stop You from Getting Care
Dental pain that goes untreated almost always becomes a larger, more expensive problem over time. A small infection becomes a larger one. A cracked tooth becomes an extraction. We see this every day and we don’t want cost to be the reason someone waits too long.
Our Smile Savings Plan includes one emergency exam per year as part of the annual membership — so if you’re already on the plan, your emergency exam is covered. For patients not on the plan, our team will quote you clearly before starting and work with you on the most affordable path to getting out of pain.

While You Wait to Be Seen
If you can’t get to us immediately, these measures can help manage pain and reduce inflammation temporarily. They are not a substitute for dental treatment — they buy you time, nothing more.
Alternating both at label doses provides better pain relief than either alone for most dental pain. Follow package instructions and do not exceed daily limits.
Half a teaspoon of salt in 8oz of warm water, gently swished around the painful area. Reduces inflammation and helps flush bacteria from the area.
Apply to the outside of your cheek for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. Helps with swelling and provides mild numbing. Do not apply heat to a dental infection.
Eugenol in clove oil acts as a natural local anesthetic. Apply a small amount with a cotton ball directly to the painful tooth and surrounding gum for temporary relief.
If you have fever with facial or neck swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or feel systemically unwell alongside dental pain — go to the ER immediately. These are signs the infection may be spreading beyond the tooth. Call 911 if breathing is compromised.
Common Questions
Emergency Exam FAQ
A regular comprehensive exam evaluates your entire mouth — all teeth, gums, bite, and oral health overall. An emergency exam is focused on the specific area causing pain or concern. It includes targeted X-rays and a clinical evaluation of the problem area to reach a diagnosis and begin treatment as quickly as possible.
Most PPO dental plans cover emergency exams — often at the same benefit level as a regular exam, or with a separate allowance for urgent visits. Coverage for same-day treatment (extraction, root canal, etc.) varies by plan. We verify your benefits when you call so you know what to expect before you come in.
In most cases, yes. If an extraction, abscess drainage, root canal, or temporary restoration is needed and your condition allows for same-day treatment, we proceed immediately. Complex surgical extractions may require scheduling with Dr. Roberts, but we will manage your pain in the meantime.
Absolutely. We welcome new patients for emergency exams. Call us, describe what’s happening, and we will fit you in as quickly as possible. You do not need to have been a patient here before to receive urgent care.
No. Antibiotics reduce the bacterial load and may temporarily control symptoms, but they do not eliminate the source of the infection inside the tooth. Without definitive treatment — root canal or extraction — the infection will return once the antibiotics are finished. Antibiotics buy time; dental treatment solves the problem.
Yes — our Smile Savings Plan ($360/year) includes one emergency exam per year as part of the membership, alongside 2 cleanings, 2 comprehensive exams, fluoride, and full X-rays. Members also receive 20% off most additional treatments. No waiting periods, no networks, starts day one.
